The simplest interpretation for Doug Wade is an almost-cross with a curious extra spoke in the dominant SE quadrant where most significant Medicine Wheel features tend to be found.

DOUG WADE                                                 Site:             DgNf-3

Type:         Medicine Wheel - Group 1            Status:         Destroyed

Region:     Saskatchewan, Canada                Location:     (protected)*

Record:    Survey (protected)*                       File:             (protected)*

Site Plan & Local Topography:

Setting:       On the crest of a prominent knoll atop the south bank of the Big Muddy Lake, overlooking steep-walled coulees of a deeply indented escarpment.

Brief:           The central cairn occupied the peak and the deeply embedded spokes extended downhill.  Two 4.5 m diameter tipi rings were within the site. An original Saskatchewan Archaeological Survey sketch indicates a nearly double row of rocks leading to the NE and a second cairn on a lower hill.

Design:        It is simplest to consider that the design intent at Doug Wade was to create a cross (a good effort at four opposed spokes) with a single additional spoke.  If the cross is aligned to anything, its multiple directions will make that difficult to prove.  The single spoke may therefore be the most remarkable feature and information source.
