ROSS Site: EfOq-87
Type: Medicine Wheel - Group 3 Status: Undisturbed
Region: Alberta, Canada Location: (protected)*
Record: Survey (protected)* File: (protected)*
Site Plan & Local Topography:

Setting: On a high hill with an excellent view in all directions, about 4.5km north of the Red Deer River valley.
Brief: A 3.9m diameter central cairn with an arc of stones to the NW about 20m. The central cairn contains about 100 small boulders and the partial circle contains pebbles, cobbles and a few small boulders. The body and legs of a male effigy lie 1m east of the central cairn, the legs extending 4.5m from a 2m torso, and a 1.2m long penis.
Design: If the human effigy features of this site were isolated here, it would be easy to assume that they were desecrations of some original design, committed at some later period. However, the number of obviously similar human features occurring within medicine wheels more easily supports a broader interpretations such that all entryway sites, and perhaps other groups of features, are in fact more abstract or stylized human forms.
