South Ridge neighborhood resident to start tool-sharing resource in Delray Beach
> Posted by DAve DiPino on January 12, 2010 at 8:52 AM
South Ridge neighborhood resident Pablo del Real has a loud co-op voice he hopes will be heard from his garage. He has created “Auroras Voice,” a tool and equipment sharing resource.
“Auroras Voice is a local nonprofit organization inspired by the work of Martin Luther King and Gandhi. We will open Sow Share, a community self-reliance project based here in Delray Beach,” del Real said.
The interior of del Real’s garage at 521 Southridge Road will be transformed into a collection of tools from neighbors available for checkout just like a library, and del Real’s 1996 four-door Volvo 850 is ready for members needing wheels for a job interview or to pick up groceries.
“What’s the point of everyone on the block buying a ladder when we all could save money and share one?” del Real said.
The idea has caught on with community residents and business leaders.
In honor of Martin Luther King’s birthday, Sow Share will begin operations on Jan. 18. Donations will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 521 Southridge Road.
