Samsung Officially Introduces Samsung Bada the New Mobile OS

Samsung Electronics the leading mobile phone maker today officially unveiled “Samsung bada” the new ground-breaking Mobile Operating system (smart phone platform). At this unveiling, Samsung showcases the bada SDK (Software Development Kit) for partners and presents the unique benefits and unprecedented opportunities that the bada platform will bring to developers, mobile operators and consumers.

According to the Samsung, the first bada phone will be available in H1 2010 and bada applications will be available through the Samsung Application Store starting in the first half of 2010, with the store being rolled out to about 30 countries throughout the year. Samsung claims that bada-powered devices will become a significant force in the market in 2010. 

The new OS is based on Samsung’s signature TouchWiz user interface, the Samsung bada OS will provide flash control, web control, motion sensing, fine-tuned vibration control as well as face detection and recognition. Samsung bada will also support sensor-based, context-aware applications. By using various sensors such as accelerometers, tilt, weather, proximity and activity sensors, application developers can implement context-aware interactive features in applications.

The Samsung bada OS also focuses on server-side functionality to support service-centric features such as social networking, device synchronization, content management, location-based services and commerce services – all supported by back-end bada servers. With these features, Samsung aims to provide an easy way for developers to implement various services without additional effort.

With this OS the applications can also use device functions to make phone calls, send messages, as well as access the contact list, browser and media. Also, various service applications can share information such as personal profiles, social relations, schedules, or contents with a simple user confirmation in order to provide services with greater personal relevance and cooperative service extension.

The new OS “Samsung bada” also supports Open GL ES 2.0 for advanced gaming capabilities. For haptic functionality, Samsung bada uses Immersion’s TouchSense Player. Another key feature in Samsung bada is Lifelog, which lets developers create intelligent call logs to let users quickly figure out who they call most often etc. It differentiates the position by supporting various service-centric features such as social networking, device synchronization, content management, location-based services, and commerce services – all supported by back-end bada servers.
