David Vogt has held professional and academic posts in multiple faculties ranging from Director of the UBC Observatories (1980-1992) to UBC's David Robitaille Chair (1999-2005) for Mathematics and Science Education. He currently holds joint appointments as Director of Innovation Strategy with the UBC Media and Graphics Interdisciplinary Center (MAGIC) Lab and as Director of Digital Learning Projects with the UBC Faculty of Education.

David has enjoyed an unusual career trajectory as an entrepreneur and academic, and has developed some unique expertise.  He is driven by the intellectual, community and economic benefits of groundbreaking, interdisciplinary research.  David's current research focus is the social, cultural and community potentials of information technologies. He is inspired by the staging of experience: how the world is entering an era of almost magical ability to stage and mediate individual and collective experience. 

Dr. Vogt holds a B.Sc. Hons. (1977-UBC) Physics and Astronomy and a B.A. (1978-UBC) English Literature, along with a Ph.D. (1990-SFU) Interdisciplinary.
